Vernon Mayor Sean Harvey is at the time of writing being investigated by the RCMP in response to complaints that he filed false expense accounts during 2004. No attempt will be made here to judge the innocence or guilt of Mayor Harvey on the accusations. Rather I would like to look at Sean Harvey's development policies while in office.
To say that Sean Harvey was "pro-development" would be an understatement. Under his leadership Vernon has attracted several new big box stores to city.
Harvey also spearheaded the fast-tracking of development permits whereby a zoning change could be completed in four to six weeks by allowing the zoning change to be made prior to traffic flow and environmental impact studies having been completed. Under Sean Harvey's leadership developers were "virtually unfettered" according to The Vernon Morning Star. Mayor Harvey enjoyed the support of the business community and the development industry.
