Among potential candidates to replace Mayor Harvey who has declared he would not seek another term in office is Vernon businessman Dean Skoreyko. According to the Vernon Morning Star "Skoreyko says he will take a different approach to managing city affairs than Mayor Sean Harvey. ... 'I think more of a balanced approach may be necessary,' said Skoreyko, adding he would take steps to restrict urban sprawl and ensure new development doesn't come at a cost to existing taxpayers. 'I want to see Vernon remain a great place to live, and an affordable place to live.'"
The 107.5 KISS FM website adds, "Skoreyko says he supports development but feels a more moderate approach is needed, compared to the city's current rapid growth. He would also like to see all council meetings open to the public unless they're dealing with legal, land or labour matters. 'People talk to me and they're concerned that decisions are being made prior to public input.'
It doesn't take a stretch of the imagination to see the similarities between Sean Harvey's attitude toward development and that of Kelowna Mayor Walter Gray. The unfortunate difference is that a moderate candidate for mayor like Skoreyko is available in Vernon
whereas so far no one has announced that they will run against Walter Gray in our city. Three more years of Walter Gray will ensure the destruction of our beautiful and livable city as our quality of life will be bartered away for development dollars. Why doesn't Kelowna have a Dean Skoreyko? Sharon Shepherd please show some backbone and run for mayor. Kelowna needs you!
