Outgoing mayor Robert J. Harriman of Peachland recently made the following remarks on an interview broadcast on Shaw Cable 11 in regards to erecting buildings on the lakeshore there. " no obstructions at all on that side of Beach Avenue ever. I think too many places have allowed one building to go in and after you get the first one in it's just a matter of time whether it takes ten years or fifty years and then the whole beach is gone and you have wall to wall concrete buildings and then you don't have the view. You might have access for the public but nothing like we have today. So that would be my one wish that that view is never obstructed by any kind of building."
It's unfortunate that we don't have that kind of wisdom in evidence in Mayor Walter Gray or elsewhere on Kelowna city council. As Robert Harriman is retiring from his post as mayor of Peachland perhaps he would like to become mayor of Kelowna. We certainly could use him.
