It was reported in the Okanagan newspaper on March 25, 2006 that Westsiders will be paying on average $150 more in property taxes this year due to "the expansion of the new regionally run fire department, increased sewering charges and land costs for a proposed Westside police station." These are the costs of growth as quite obviously development cost charges levied on developers don't pay for all the costs. In the final analysis we all ending up paying for growth which requires additional services for the larger population and cities with the highest growth rates typically see the largest increase in taxes.
