The Daily Courier reported on June 26, 2007 that communications consultant and former Daily Courier managing editor John Harding who led the pro-incorporation side of the recent debate on Westside governance offered to sell his business services to the City of Kelowna to promote its side of the issue. The paper reports that the city declined his offer two weeks after it decided in principle to support amalgamation. Harding told the Courier that "It was early. I was just looking (out) for my business. At that point I hadn't even given it (the referendum) much thought."
Having read many of Harding's editorials when he was at the helm of the Courier, I frequently thought that a lot of his opinions showed a lack of studied reflection and that he often just shot from the lip. Obviously, he didn't give his actions much thought in this case either. But one thing I was always certain about was that Harding consistently acted to further his self-interest. In that regard I think that Harding is given a lot more respect from the public than he deserves, and they should be asking themselves as to what really motivates this man?
