A new development watchdog group has been started in Peachland the goals of which include opposing high-density, high-rise megaprojects. The group which is as yet unnamed has published its goals as:
Goals of Society
1. To preserve Peachland’s historic, small town ambience and livability, by advocating against high rise, high density ‘mega development’;
2. To promote acceptance of the idea that Peachland’s Official Community Plan should be a ‘near sacrosanct’ policy statement about Peachland’s desired future and that it is only suitable for this purpose when:
i) it is founded on a comprehensive process of community consultation;
ii) updates and renewals take place at dates specified within the plan;
iii) mid-stream OCP changes occur in exceptional circumstances only and never without extensive opportunities for community review and comment
3. To advocate for inclusion in Peachland’s Official Community Plan, goals, policies and strategies for resource conservation and environmental protection so as to ensure a sustainable supply of clean air, clean water, and clean soil, as well as protection of other natural resources and wildlife;
4. To develop mechanisms for public dialogue and accountability review with District Council. For more information on the group, contact Keith Fielding at keithfielding@shaw.ca

Hello Here in Peachland is another 'senseless' development - it is the Trepanier Manor Hotel and 20 large homes on 5 useable acre !!! (OK - it is a 26 acre property BUT max 5 acre useable) We started a Petition - collected over 120 signatures so far BUT still they got the permit from the city .. For us - it was lost ... Today - November 15, 2007 - we got a new letter from the city - "to consider a development permit to construct a 38 bed luxury hotel, 20 strata title single family dwelling cottages and one gate house" This meeting/hearing is already on November 27, 2007 in the Peachland Council Chambers at 7 pm Any support or any add. arguments against this development are welcome ... or show up and bring your arguments ... Have a look at our petition website members.shaw.ca/petition/ Contact us at petition@shaw.ca

Thanks for sharing that information.
The comments at the website are typical of comments coming from people across this country, and around the planet. At some point, the voices will be loud enough that ignoring them will no longer be a possibility.
Keep up the great work!

Now the worst happened - developer has done it. Clear cut an area on Table Top Mountain in Peachland without buffer zone to Law Creek
Is there not a 15 meter zone required ?? Efforts should be made to retain as many trees as possible on the property ??
