The City of Cranbrook is just one of many cities in western Canada which have a city-owned RV and camping site right near the downtown area.
Please be clear that I am not promoting this as the only option, but one option might be to do exactly that with the old K.S.S. site.
I have my own list of advantages and disadvantages in mind, and other options, but that one is open for discussion.

I believe they should put a good sized hotel there, with the affordable housing.

A geography class at OUC submitted a concept for the development of the KSS to the planning department at the request of the latter. The student plan was for a mixture on housing types to accommodate different income groups. None of the structures were to have been above four storeys. It was to be done according to neo-urbanist, neo-traditional design. The student plan was shot down by city planner Hazel Christie who called it "too conservative." It seems that Highrise Hazel wanted a, well, a highrise.
