As Conservative Party candidate Ron Cannan made his preferences for Kelowna city council known to the media before the municipal election, I would also like to give some guidance to the public in making their choice for MP in the Kelowna-Lake Country riding. I believe that the electorate can choose wisely among three candidates in that riding -- Vern Nielsen, Kevin Hagglund, and Angela Reid.

Canadian politics at just about every level has left me more than a little cynical of late. There's something basically wrong with a system that has me standing in the polling both looking for the candidate who is going to do the least amount of damage. It would be so refreshing to see a candidate come along with sincere and honourable intentions, and then actually follow up on them once elected.

Yesterday I watched an interview by the CBC's Peter Mansbridge of Stephane Dion. Although I was lukewarm about Dion earlier, I was favourably impressed afterwards by Dion's sincerity and his humble yet confident demeanor. Add that to his intelligence and you have a powerful combination. Perhaps Dion doesn't have the charisma that some are seeking in a leader, but charisma without substance has been tried before and found lacking. I think that Dion has "the beef".

I agree. At his point in time, Mr. Dion does not appear to have been cut from the same cloth as a lot of the others. I am encouraged by his emphasis on environmental issues. There may be hope for us yet.
